Dear Friend,
One More Step
This Inner Journey Letter continues an exploration of the idea of a new species for the
21st century. In the last IJ Journal, we shared what we consider to be an important
bridge to this new creation—the sacred human. If more of our true identity is to emerge
from within us, our first step is to embrace our humanity rather than try to repair it or
push it aside. The truth is Spirit will pour Itself upon the earth not because we have
the courage to express our divinity, but because we have the courage to be fully human.
With this letter, we will introduce an equally vital step that the human race is destined
to take if the new species is to be born.
The Dawn of a New Age
A new age is coming. Many are looking for signs—earthquakes, floods, portents in the
heaven—but the signs that the new time has come are Silence and waiting. Just as our
willingness to experience our humanity calls for the new species, so does our willingness
to wait in stillness. The new species knows the place of power and the door through which
our individual lives and the world are blessed. The place is within us, and the door is a
consciousness of God.
For eons we have been a need-based species, not too far removed from the animals from which
we evolved. We have been concerned about food, water, shelter, whom we will marry, where
we will work and vacation, and what kind of vehicle we will drive.
We have grown more sophisticated through the years. Our God used to be outside of us, but
now the Creator is within. However, whether we turn outside of ourselves or within, usually
it is still to get our God to act.
The new species has another desire. It yearns for a relationship with the One that will
eventually merge into oneness. Our motivation will not be earthly; it will be the
discovery of who and what we are and why we are here.
A Need Is Not An Avenue
The old species mistakenly holds to the belief that a need is an avenue through which the
Creator can act. If it was true, as soon as a need arose, it would be alleviated.
A casual look at our lives and the world teaches us the fallacy of this belief, for
needs often go unmet for years. People die because their needs continue.
Silence and waiting will teach the new species that a consciousness
of God is the door through which Spirit can act. Someone must awaken to the
Presence. Then Spirit pours Itself upon the earth.
Rest assured that when you hear the call to wait in stillness rather than asking
God to meet your human needs, the new species is emerging from within you.
You will be a door through which power, peace, love, joy, and strength find their way into.
the world.
No Fear
Let there be no fear of the Silence. Understandably, some people are reluctant to enter the
Silence, for on this path they face themselves. They expect peace and find a mind that darts
from thing to thing. Emotions and painful memories appear. Often repressed or hidden parts
of themselves are stirred. This is normal. Regrettably, the normal response to this humanity
is to resist it or to wish it would go away. This is not God’s way. Spirit asks us to resist
not.
Remember, non-resistance begins within us. It starts and, in fact, finds its greatest
expression in the Silence. When you feel the new species rising and begin to dedicate yourself
to the waiting, listening, and trusting, adopt an attitude of non-resistance.
Observe what is within you and do not try to push it away. Instead, invite it to be with you.
Tell "it" that it is a part of you and will not be sent away. Ask it to "sit" with you.
Listen to what it says, but be willing to tell it the truth.
For instance, perhaps a feeling of inadequacy is experienced while waiting in prayer.
The old species will try to turn from this part of itself. In fact, it may cease the practice
of prayer and meditation. The new species will be non-resistant and honest. Here is my old
feeling of inadequacy. I now admit you are a part of my human nature. I once thought you
unacceptable. I tried to run from you. No more. You are a part of me, and I will resist you
no more.
Interestingly, when we are non-resistant, the "power" of the past is lessened and eventually is
dissolved. A more genuine person is born that not only experiences its humanity, but also
knows itself to be divine. Fear ceases, and faith is born.
This is your destiny, dear friend—loving kindness toward the world, but it all begins within.
A being of integrity is born with less lurking in the soul. This one is worthy of a conscious
union with God. This allows the door to form and needs to be met. The new species creates
a new world, not because we can turn stones to bread, but because we have compassion, first
with ourselves and then with others. And it all begins in the Silence.
In Love We Journey With You,
